Tano explains how Slotlap wants to challenge and motivate players with Sifufight. The aim is to encourage players to learn, improve and adapt, with the immediate resurrection gimmick working as a way to help new players as it allows them to fail at least a few times. . But since the cost of defeat will increase with each death, players will eventually need to learn profound knowledge of the combat system if they want to complete the game.
The lack of any difficulty options may render some players unplayable Sifu, but Tano doesn’t completely rule out the addition of alternative difficulty options in the future. It wouldn’t be entirely unprecedented; when Profit never received different difficulty options, it was criticized for its save feature, as it failed to save midway. Developer Housemarque will eventually update the game to allow players to allow exactly that, meaning it’s now possible to try running in multiple sessions.
Difficulty in video games remains a hotly discussed topic, as some believe that every game should offer difficulty options to allow more people to play them. In the case of something like Dark souls, as many people argue that brutal difficulty is the key point, and whether or not difficulty options are implemented is entirely up to the developers.
