What happens when you find 40 Diglett in the Grand Underground?

Of all big changes found in Brilliant diamond & Shining pearls, the connections to Underground are perhaps the most notable. Now called the Grand Underground, this rather large underground area home to many Pokemon, including many that cannot be found anywhere else in the Sinnoh region. While not a drastic change, observant players may also notice a mysterious counter prominently placed below the player’s minimap.

When a player first enters the Grand Underground, this counter will read 0/40, leading many to believe it simply keeps track of how many areas they have visited so far. However, as they begin to explore, they quickly realize that this is not the case at all, which can leave players wondering what the counter does and how to fill it. As it happens, the answers to both of these questions are pretty simple.

How do you fill the meter in Grand Underground?

As players explore the Grand Underground, they will occasionally encounter Digletts poking out of the ground in the corridors connecting the main rooms. However, as the player gets closer, the Digletts will disappear, leaving a trail of pink glitter that disappears completely after a second or two. However, if the player steps on them before they disappear, they will be able to collect them, which will cause the counter to increase by one. If the player stumbles across a Dugtrio, which is much rarer, the counter will increase to three instead.

Diglett Counter in Grand Underground What to do?

When the counter reaches forty and the meter is full, a message says “Something good might happen in the Grand Underground!” will appear at the top of the screen. After that, a few different bonuses will appear, the best of which is an improved chance to find a Shiny Pokemon. The chance of finding Shiny Statues while digging is also greatly increased, and they can be used to increase the chance of finding certain Pokemon in the Grand Underground.

Sadly, this bonus only lasts for four minutes, so players will need to be quick if they want to make the most of it. If they are going to dig Beautiful Stone Boxes containing Shiny Statues, they should exit the digging session as soon as they have finished digging a box. On the other hand, if they plan to hunt for a shiny Pokemon, they should run away as soon as they can confirm that the Pokemon isn’t shiny and move on to the next one.

How to fill in Diglett meter quickly

There are several different methods for filling a Diglett counter quickly, but some are a lot better than others. The most effective related to Build a secret base right next to one of the points where Digletts spawn and then just run in and out of the base repeatedly until the meter is full. Before actually building the base though, you should check the spot a few times to make sure that’s where the Digletts will appear consistently. It should also be noted that back to the surface at any point will reset the meter to zero.
